A New Pitch, A Bigger Future for Thrapston FC

Big things are happening at Thrapston FC. We’re working hard behind the scenes to bring a brand new 5G training pitch to our club, and now we’ve got some serious backing. Our local MP, Lee Barron, is fully behind the campaign.

Back in January 2025, Lee met with us in Parliament to hear more about what this pitch would mean for our players, coaches and the wider community. He’s now championing our efforts to secure funding and get the right people listening. Having his support is a huge boost.

So why is this pitch such a big deal?

Right now, like many grassroots clubs, we’re at the mercy of the weather. Sessions get cancelled. Matches get moved. Players lose valuable game time. A new 5G surface would give us a reliable, all-weather pitch where football can carry on, whatever the forecast.

And it’s not just about football. Lee summed it up perfectly –  bringing teams together in one space builds community spirit. That’s exactly what we’re aiming for. A shared space where football becomes more than just a game. It becomes a place to belong.

What this means for the club

  • More regular training for players of all ages
  • Better coaching conditions and long-term player development
  • A safer, more consistent playing surface
  • Room to grow junior football, women’s teams and local outreach

This isn’t a short-term fix. It’s an investment in the future of Thrapston FC. A way to grow our programmes, bring people together and create something the whole town can be proud of.

What happens next?

We’re currently exploring every possible route for funding. Lee’s backing is helping open the right conversations with councils, sports bodies and potential sponsors. The response so far has been really encouraging.

But we can’t do this alone – and we wouldn’t want to.
